The importance of using an ARLA affiliated Lettings Agent such as Heywoods is highlighted in this report by the Property Reporter;

According to a survey conducted by the Tenants' Voice website, just under a third of renters say they have been victims of or threatened with "retaliatory evictions".

Often these sorts of evictions come in the wake of a tenant requesting repairs by carried out. Unscrupulous landlords have found it more convenient to simply remove a tenant from a property after their statutory minimum tenancy than to carry out the requested repairs. Furthermore, 71% of those surveyed said they had paid for repair works to a rental property out of their own pocket instead of the landlord carrying out the requested repairs.

55% of renters said they are currently living with ongoing issues in their home and would rather tolerate the problem than approach the landlord.

Susan Fitz-Gibbon, ARLA President, said:

"If you are worried about any aspect of a tenancy, seek advice from a letting agent affiliated to a professional organisation like ARLA. If your tenancy is managed by an ARLA agent, they can act as a useful mediator between yourself and the landlord."
